Bilateral talks between President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the Prime Minister. Benjamin Netanyahu’s office in Israel.
 

Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu key points :

  1. He stressed the excellent relationship between Nigerian and Israel.
  2. The focus of the bilateral meeting centred on Trade, investment, tourism.
  3. Israel stands prepared to help all responsible nations fight terrorism.
  4. He calls Dr. Goodluck Jonathan a responsible leader of a friendly nation.
  5. Claimed the foremost sponsor of terror in the world is Iran.

 

President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Key points

  1. The Nigerian President stated he was in Israel for religious reasons but he intends to use the opportunity to have a bilateral talk to further strengthen ties between Nigeria and the state of Israel.
  2. Israel has been helpful to Nigeria in the area of technology to progress Agriculture, Construction, ICT, Intelligence and other areas.
  3. Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan praised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the successful signing of the BASA agreement which now means Nigerians no longer need to pass through a third party country like Egypt, London or Turkey to get to Israel.
  4. He stated there are over fifty Israeli companies doing very well in the areas of Civil Engineering, Power Sector who are operating in Nigeria, they too would also benefit from this direct flying route (Tel Aviv to Lagos/Abuja) and vice versa.
  5. The issue of security globally is quite worrisome.
  6. The world appears to be mapped out into two; some people want society to live in ‘crisis’ and others want society to live in peace and Nigeria belongs to the group that want peace.
  7. He further stated that Nigeria will continue to work with Israel and other well being nations that desire to live in a peaceful world.
  8. Nuclear power should be used for economic purposes – agriculture, medicine but not for the purpose of destroying human lives.
  9. For Nigeria and Israel, there are so many areas he believes the two countries can work together, the areas of power, agriculture, water resource management where Israel are experts.
  10. He identified that Israel has been able to conquer their environment, “we appreciate your technology and we believe you will assist us in conquering our environment with your expertise”.
  11. Nigerian President pointed out that before now, most key areas of Nigeria’s economy where controlled by the Federal Government, the issue of power, our ports - airports and sea ports, railways, all these were all monopolised by the Federal government. He added that Nigeria is now opening up all these area to private sector investment.
  12. The Nigerian President believes government’s role is to create a conducive environment while private sector drives the economy.
  13. He ended by saying he hoped his coming would further reinforce a strong ‘economic relationship’ between Nigeria and the state of Israel.
